The Story Behind PrettyAF
So I’ve been getting a lot of questions about PrettyAF so I wanted to answer all of them here!
What’s the story behind PrettyAF? What gave you the idea to start it?
PrettyAF started with a DOMAIN. I was looking at the available URL’s one day and I saw that PrettyAF.com was available.
I was like “seriously, how is that still available?!” this was in 2018 so all the good domains are already taken unless you buy them from someone trying to make thousands of dollars. But this one was just available. So I snatched it up. I had zero clue what I would do with it. But it was too good to let someone else get it!
Last year at a conference one of the speakers had everyone close their eyes and envision the best and happiest version of yourself. She asked, “What do you see her doing?”. I saw myself on a stage and with a book. I was speaking to and hugging women. I was encouraging them to follow their hearts and dreams and to do what made them truly happy.
I had no clue how I would do that. But I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I had my website AzaleeMaslow.com for a few years but it was just about me and that’s great for my personal brand (which I think is super important) but I wanted to create a community. I didn’t want it to be just about me. I wanted it to be about you. I wanted you to see other women doing incredible things to help you realize you can literally do anything. I wanted to shine a light on things people don’t want to talk about but it would be so helpful if they did. I wanted to highlight women, like you, that are PrettyAF inside and out.
It clicked that PrettyAF.com was the place for me to do this.
What about The Babble Boutique?
I also already had The Babble Boutique, which is all about social and digital media marketing. It’s an agency where I help people with their social and digital media marketing. I still love doing that and will continue to run The Babble Boutique.
How’d you pick your logo? What’s it mean?
I wanted this logo to be something I could put on products (because who doesn’t want merch that says PrettyAF!?) and I didn’t want to do something basic like my other two logos (Azalee Maslow + The Babble Boutique).
Sooo I hired an expert. (PS - I’m a HUGE fan of hiring experts)
I went on Fiverr and started looking around at different styles of logos and fell in love with the feminine cartoon ones! So I picked an artist that had great reviews and that I like her style!
I wanted to include elements in the logo that represent what PrettyAF is all about!
Here’s a breakdown of those elements:
Myself looking PrettyAF - I wanted to have a face to PrettyAF even though it’s not just about me. I’m still telling my stories on here and will be who’s interviewing each person on PrettyAF. I didn’t want it to be a faceless brand. This is also the “beauty” element in the logo.
Laptop - Pretty much everything I do on PrettyAF (blogging, posting on social media, the website) is done through my laptop!
Podcast mic - From the start, I knew I wanted PrettyAF to have a podcast where I interview people that are PrettyAF inside and out. So the podcast mic is there to represent that!
Gonzo (my Chihuahua) - 20% of all proceed from PrettyAF go to select animal charities. So I thought my pup, Gonzo, was the perfect representation of that! He was adopted and one of the charities we support is to help dog adoptions!
Wine - PrettyAF is about wellness too and that’s where the wine comes in! You might not think of wine when you think of wellness but it represents the balance needed to truly be healthy. Plus, it’s a little bit of fun!
Sparkles - There are some sparkles around the logo and this represents a little bit of magic. I want PrettyAF to encourage you to dream and believe in yourself! You need a little bit of sparkle for that!
The words “PrettyAF” - PrettyAF represents being PrettyAF inside and out!
Do you have any other questions about how or why I started PrettyAF? Let me know in the comments!
XoXo,
Azalee
