If you know me...you know I LOVE SLEEP. The more I can get the better. I turn down a lot of things because I want to sleep. Like I love it.
BUT I kept waking up feeling groggy even when I slept 8-10 hours. So I started researching how to get the best sleep. And these are the things I’ve implemented that have helped me. I mean you can’t sleep like a queen and wake up tired AF...not cute.
So here’s how to slay the sleep game:
Set the mood:
Get off your phone. Get rid of all the blue light. Blue light tells your body it’s time to BE AWAKE! So you don’t want that. Turn the TV off at least 30 minutes before bed. If you want to really get into, use Blue Light Blocking glasses in the evening. Block those sleep haters.
My favorite Blue Light Blocking glasses
Use code "AZALEE" for 20% off!
Now that you’ve gotten rid of the blue light, get some orange light in there. I use a pink salt lamp for this and sometimes candles. I also love an oil diffuser.
My favorite diffuser
My favorite oils for diffusers
This pink salt lamp is similar to mine!
You can read on a book now (not your phone) or a Kindle. Currently I’m reading "The Cellulite Myth" and "Game Changers". Just do something that's relaxing and won't make you more awake.
Play "Thunder Storm Sounds" on your Alexa. Volume 3.
You need it to be DARK. Use blackout curtains and put black tape on any lights (like the blue light on your TV box).
No More Anxiety:
I’m anxious AF. So I need some help with that when I’m going to sleep. I use a weighted blanket, Calm magnesium, and the app Headspace to meditate before bed.
Don’t ruin an amazing nights sleep!
Nothing kills a good nights sleep like waking up to the sound of an old school alarm like WTF is that. No thanks.
Get yourself an alarm clock that slowly wakes you up with light
Okay so I have this alarm clock that wakes me up with light instead of sound. It gets brighter over a 30 minute period instead of just suddenly screaming. This helps your body wake up when it’s not at the deepest point of sleep. You will notice the light when you’re in a light sleep and naturally start to wake up. Then once it’s time to wake up it’ll play birds sounds in case you’re still not up. Look I would have never been able to wake up before from little bird sounds. And I wake up refreshed...not tired AF.
Get the best alarm clock in the world here
Okay, you have to get comfy before bed or how are you going to sleep?
I recommend modal pajama pants from the GAP (literally the softest pants in the world) and a My Pillow. Also definitely wash your face and brush your teeth. Nothing is more uncomfortable that having a tight face from your make-up still being on it.
You could be waking up sleepy because you’re low on certain vitamins. I’ll go into full detail on all the tests I’ve done and what the results mean soon in another post (stay tuned).
You're ready to sleep like a Queen!
